![]() ![]() ![]() The game is running on an all-new 3D engine that lets players view the action from a bird's-eye view all the way down to first person. The first upgrade I noticed was the obvious. ![]() I'm pleased to report, though, that based on my demo of the game at Microsoft's booth at E3, the game's producers have taken gamers' feedback very seriously indeed, and are crafting a vastly upgraded version of Zoo Tycoon that looks like it might appeal to both the casual gamer and management sim fans. Microsoft could certainly have just given the game a graphical once over, slapped a "2" on the box, and shipped it off to sell another kajillion copies. Unfortunately, monumental sales aside, the original Zoo Tycoon was dismissed by hardcore strategy and management sim fans for its unbalanced gameplay and finicky creatures that seemed more concerned with whether there were 18 or 19 rocks in their enclosure than whether or not they had food to eat. Second only to the amusement parks of Rollercoaster Tycoon there may not be a more obvious setting for a "Tycoon"-style game. The constant presence of the original Zoo Tycoon on our Top Ten Best-Selling PC Games list testifies to the enormous appeal the idea of building the zoo of your dreams has for most people.
